The mission for the American Cancer Society...
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
The American Cancer Society also has an international mission as well...
The American Cancer Society's international mission concentrates on capacity building in developing cancer societies and on collaboration with other cancer-related organizations throughout the world in carrying out shared strategic directions.
These can be found at http://www.cancer.org/aboutus/whoweare/acsmissionstatements
Every project the American Cancer Society pursues begins and ends with the mission in mind. For over 100 years the American Cancer Society has been leading the way to transform cancer from deadly to preventable.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's most successful fund-raiser and the organization's signature event that acts to fulfill the mission of improving survival from cancer, decreasing the incidence of cancer, and improving the quality of life for those who have been diagnosed with cancer.
It is estimated that Relay For Life events have raised nearly $5 billion to date.
The largest virtual fund-raising event is Relay For Life of Second Life, which has raised more than $2,000,000 since 2005.
You might ask, “What is the mission of Relay for Life?”
We are an event and our mission is the mission of the American Cancer Society.
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
While the American Cancer Society is making progress toward a world without cancer, only with your dedication and fund-raising efforts can we finish the fight against the disease.
Make sure your team members and donors understand how important their contributions are by sharing how their support is making a difference by learning about the landmark programs the ACS supports.
Research: The American Cancer Society finds answers that save lives - from changes in lifestyle to new approaches in therapies to improving cancer patients' quality of life. No single nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization in the US has invested more to find the causes and cures of cancer.
Hope Lodge: American Cancer Society Hope Lodge facilities provide a free and comfortable place for patients and their caregivers to stay, so they can focus on getting well.
Road to Recovery: Cancer patients frequently cite transportation to and from treatment as one of their most critical needs. The Road To Recovery program matches cancer patients with specially trained volunteer drivers.
Look Good...Feel Better: This free service teaches women battling cancer beauty techniques to help them improve their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Volunteer beauty professionals demonstrate makeup techniques, nail care, skin care, and options related to hair loss.
Reach to Recovery: Our Reach To Recovery support program matches specially trained breast cancer survivors with people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and want to talk to someone who has been there. These dedicated volunteers offer understanding, support, and hope.
