Wrap up: coming soon

RFL Mega Events have grown to be some of the most amazing events in Second Life. They are attended by thousands of guests and shoppers, SL residents and fans who expect and receive the best show(s) of the year. Exhibitors at these Mega Events continue to provide support and backing to Relay year after year, event after event and these events wouldn’t be as successful or as popular, as they are, without them. Second Life performers are always quick to sign up, as well, bringing top notch entertainment to the stages of these events. It takes MANY volunteers to put these events together and Relay For Life of Second Life definitely has that. These volunteers band together to put out events that are talked about and anticipated all year-long. All of these people, volunteers.. Relay friends.. Relay family.. are deeply appreciated. These events add a big push to the fundraising campaigns of the American Cancer Society in Second Life and those supporters/volunteers are such a valuable part of the Relay and that punch against cancer. THANK YOU to you all. The following mega events are currently being planned for the remainder of 2016 and for the upcoming 2017 fundraising year. If you are a coordinator of a Mega Event and would like to learn how to bring it to Relay For Life of Second Life please contact Nuala Maracas in-world . According to our most recent Cancer Statistics report, we are making progress against cancer in the US, with a 20 percent decline in cancer mortality in two decades. But worldwide, the statistics tell a very different story. In 2010, cancer killed nearly 8 million people – that’s more than the number of global deaths from malaria and HIV/AIDS combined. And it’s expected to grow to more than 13 million by 2030.

This is clearly an immense problem – more than any one organization can tackle alone. It is more important than ever that we realize our vision to be a co-equal partner with all sectors – public, private, and nonprofit – to bring cancer under control. We need both the resources and the awareness that collaborative work can bring to our fight.

We truly are “better together” when we combine the unique strengths of multiple organizations to make a greater impact. (We devoted an entire session to this issue at our recent leadership summit.) We are moving beyond the transactional relationships we’ve had with partners in the past and today are looking for relationships that bring value to all parties. We want to work with merchants who have a mind for our business and a heart for our mission.
